Have you ever opened a new pair of sneakers? Maybe you’ve had the luxury of buying a brand-new car straight from the factory. That “new smell” you notice is actually the smell of VOCs: Volatile Organic Compounds.
And they are REALLY bad for your health.
The most significant — and easiest — way to create better health is to start where you sleep. You spend about one third of your life in your bed. Shouldn’t you remove as many toxins as possible from your bedroom?
At Sage Sleep, our organic mattresses are designed to help you sleep healthier. You won’t find toxic chemicals in our products, only the highest-quality health-promoting materials.
Here’s how Sage Sleep mattresses provide healthier sleep.
No Toxic Chemicals
Most mattresses on the market are full of chemicals, including polyurethane foam that can emit high levels of VOCs, flame-retardant chemicals, and PVC or vinyl covers that can pollute your indoor air and lead to health problems. Foam mattresses, such as memory foam and polyurethane foam, offgas some of the highest levels of VOCs.
Traditional mattresses, pillows, and mattress toppers often contain chlorinated Tris, a flame-retardant chemical that is a known neurotoxin and carcinogen. Natural fibers such as wool are naturally flame resistant and are a healthier option to keep these hazardous chemicals out of your — and your family’s — bedding. We use only organic and natural materials in our mattresses, never added flame-retardant chemicals.
100% Natural Latex
We traveled the globe to find the purest natural latex from Sri Lanka for our natural latex mattresses. 100% natural latex is a renewable material made from rubber-tree sap. Organic latex mattresses are nontoxic and offer natural resistance to dust mites, molds, and bacteria — an excellent choice for those who suffer from allergies or asthma.
Natural rubber is cultivated utilizing eco-friendly methods. The sap produced is converted into latex using the Dunlop or method, in which the organic sap is whipped into a froth, poured into a mold, covered, and then steam baked. This process allows the latex to settle naturally, creating a firm and dense sleep surface. This technique creates one of the most comfortable, supportive and soothing sleep systems in the world.
Certified Organic Materials
Choose a mattress made from certified organic materials such as cotton, wool, and natural latex. Look for a mattress with Global Organic Textile Standard, or GOTS, certification. To receive GOTS certification, a mattress cannot be made of polyurethane foam or contain a number of hazardous chemicals. Organic latex will carry Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS) certification.
